Important Update on Education Reform (April 5, 2013)

ICEA Members:
We are at a critical point in the legislative session concerning Education Reform. Please take time to write specific legislators this weekend to give your input. In simple terms, the Senate version of Ed Reform is the version endorsed by ISEA as more education-friendly. The House and Senate have ended up in a deadlock this past week, and now the bill is in conference committee. The details are below.  Please contact the members of the committee (below) using the ISEA website – click on Take Action Now:
http://www.isea.org/home/273.htm

When you use the ISEA website, ISEA can keep statistics on input, especially when legislators claim that they have not received such information from citizens.

Here is the Conference Committee Committee:
Co-Chair Senator Herman Quirmbach (D-Ames)
Senator Tod Bowman (D- Maquoketa)
Senator Mary Jo Wilhelm (D- Cresco)
Senator Joni Ernst (R- Red Oak)
Senator Amy Sinclair (R-Allerton)
Co-Chair Rep. Ron Jorgensen (R-Sioux City)
Rep. Quentin Stanerson (R-Center Point)
Rep. Cecil Dolecheck (R-Mt. Ayr)
Rep. Sharon Steckman (D- Mason City)
Rep. Frank Wood (D-Eldridge)
Here are details from the ISEA Hotline:

Education Reform moves to conference committee; now it's your turn!
Yesterday, the Senate debated HF 215 and added a strike-through amendment making HF 215 the same as SF 423. On April 4, the House refused to concur, which means the Ed Reform bill has now been placed in Conference Committee. A Conference Committee is made up of 10 legislators, five members from the House and five members from the Senate. The Conference Committee is assigned to hash out an agreement. The first meeting of substance will take place early next week.
It is important that the members of the Conference Committee hear from you, particularly on the issue of Allowable Growth. As you will recall, the House proposed a two percent increase for 2014-2015 while the Senate proposed a four percent increase. Please contact all of the members and let them know what Allowable Growth means in your district. Members of the Conference Committee include:
Co-Chair Senator Herman Quirmbach (D-Ames)
Senator Tod Bowman (D- Maquoketa)
Senator Mary Jo Wilhelm (D- Cresco)
Senator Joni Ernst (R- Red Oak)
Senator Amy Sinclair (R-Allerton)
Co-Chair Rep. Ron Jorgensen (R-Sioux City)
Rep. Quentin Stanerson (R-Center Point)
Rep. Cecil Dolecheck (R-Mt. Ayr)
Rep. Sharon Steckman (D- Mason City)
Rep. Frank Wood (D-Eldridge)
